Due to the nature of the monks inhabiting the space it is integral there is a strong self sustainable strategy.
The seminary allows for the following:
>Vegetable courtyard/Communal garden (Food)
>Beehives (Honey+beeswax for candles)
>Water harnessing, filtration of water and storage
>Sunlight harnessing (Mechanical reflectors)
>Natural Ventilation
>Utilising thermal mass
>Water heating system and P.Vs on South facade
Adopting each renewable strategy reduces the demand for any artificial heat or lighting, isolating the seminary from the national grid.
